Thanks to the sun! Shadows!

We were very thankful that the sun came out from behind the clouds today so that we could measure the shadows! On Monday we planned an investigation around the question, how do shadows change over the course of the day? Unfortunately we had, up until now, been unable to carryout our measurements because it had been very cloudy.

Finally today the sun decided to come out and play and we were able to go to the playground and make our measurements taking into account how to make our test fair. There were a couple of occasions when we had to wait patiently for the sun to shine down on us but we are now able to look at our results and draw some conclusions from them.

Daniel's poem

Neptune

I am Icy cold like a freezer
I am as wet as the sea
I look at uranus, but pluto is behind me
I role around in the atmosphere
I am 2.8 million killometers from the sun
But very silent, silent as a mouse
And nobody will build a house on me

Jupiter

I'm Jupiter biggest of them all
orbiting round saving the earth with my huge force of gravity.
I have seen humans four times in fact .
I'm 5th from the sun but still i cant see him,
I see Saturn and mars by my side

Uranus Poem

Uranus
I'm Uranus
I look at Pluto everyday, he's really small
I remember when I was that size,
My secret sparkly icy ring circling round me day and night,
My freezing cold weathermakes me shimmer in the dark space around me,
The colour of me is bluey green,
I'm really bright so I can be seen.

watson's poem

Mars

I have icy flakes on
me.
I watch the earth spinning
on its axis.
I am hot and dry with holes all
over.
Lots of hot rocks bashing into
me.
Little bits of sand flickering on
me.

Uranus

Everyday, I Uranus shiver at my freezing degree,
I set my eyes upon Neptune.
Wondering what it is like upon him.
I am the third and fourth biggest planet in the Solar System.
I wonder whether I am glowing to the stars beyond?

Pluto

This week we have been doing poems and this is my poem

Teeny tiny Pluto looking at the other planets wondering

when I will be that big.

I can't see the sun it is really far away.

I can see Neptune he's right in front of my face.

I look to one side and I look to the other side no planets at all.

I can only see the black starry night gleaming in my eyes!!!!

Callum's Space Poem

In my Earth and Beyond work I produced a poem for my planet Jupiter.
This is my poem

Giant Jupiter Swirling around the sun
Jupiter's eye looking at you
and the faint planetary ring sparkles in the sky
I'm not all alone, I look around and next to me is red and dusty Mars

My Alien creature

This week we have all entered a competition to win a nintendo ds and a education pack. We had to pretend that we were on an island called Cloudipia , sweatopia, ice-otopia and cavernopia and we had to design a creature that could live in one of them places. My creature is called Leafter and it lives in Cloudopia. Clouopia is warm damp and has giant trees. For my creature life would be very hard. Our creatures had to have something that could help them survive and my creature has some protection plates to stop it drying out and it also has some antennas to help it detect its enemies. My creature eats fruit and Monkeys eat my creature. My creature can build a nest out of leaves and lays eggs. It also breathes through its skin.

Darwin in Space

This week we have been working towards a competition called Darwin in Space for National Science and Engineering Week. We had to imagine that Charles Darwin had discovered an alien planet where new life exists. There are four islands on the planet. Each is completely different and far away from the others-one is a desert, anther very cold, another hot and tropical and the last one covered in mountains and caves.

We had to invent an alien creature for one of these environments and write about how it is suited to living there.
